We Made a Difference in the Community

At NASA Federal Credit Union, we’re committed to being a good neighbor. We have a long history of giving back to the community, and supported many worthwhile causes during 2013.

In January, the Big Dippers—a group of hardy NASA FCU employees participating in the annual Polar Bear Plunge—took a dip into chilly waters to help the Maryland Special Olympics. In addition, in April, 73 NASA FCU volunteers and 16 NASA FCU runners participated in the annual Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run in Washington, D.C to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

On April 15, Tim Burch, Vice President of Technology Services, ran as a member of the Credit Unions Kids at Heart Boston Marathon Team. Despite the tragic events that took place during the 2013 Boston Marathon, all members of the Credit Unions Kids at Heart Boston Marathon Team, including Tim, returned safely. Credit Unions Kids at Heart Raised $128,000 for Boston Children’s Hospital this year.

In May, NASA FCU awarded over $21,000 in scholarships to seven area students through the Mitchell-Beall-Rosen Memorial Scholarship. The Scholarship, now in its 31st year, has supported hundreds of promising young individuals as they embark on their educational goals.

This past October, NASA FCU once again participated in the annual Light the Night® walk to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Through the efforts of members and employees, we raised $19,000— the highest annual contribution to date—to support important patient services, advocacy for lifesaving treatments, and the most promising cancer research anywhere.

Finally, we round out the year with our annual NASA FCU Food Drive. The NASA FCU 2013 Holiday Food Drive is in full swing thanks to the generosity of so many of our employees and members. As in prior years, NASA FCU hosts the Holiday Food Drive to gather food donations for local area food pantries. This year, our goal is to donate 4,500 pounds of food. If you would like to participate in this worthy cause, we are accepting food donations until December 12, 2013 at any NASA FCU branch.
