Staying Safe at the ATM

ATM Safety

We all agree that ATMs are a great convenience. But depending on the ATM you choose, your safety could be at risk. As we kick off the New Year, here are a few reminders for staying safe at the ATM.

For starters, pay close attention to the ATM and the surroundings, especially after dark. If you notice anything suspicious, use another location or return at a later time. Also, if you are at the ATM and see something suspicious, cancel the transaction, put your card in your pocket and leave immediately.

Additionally, it is important to minimize the amount of time you spend at the ATM. So make sure you prepare your transactions (for example, endorse your checks, fill out your deposit slips, etc.) before you arrive at the ATM so you can get in, get out, and get on your way as quickly as possible.

Finally, be alert for the presence of a card skimmer on the ATM. A skimmer is a device that reads the magnetic data on your card as you insert or swipe your card in the ATM. Look for glue or tape residue, something that wasn’t there the last time you used the ATM.

You can avoid being a victim by using common sense and by planning your ATM transactions in advance. View a complete list of ATM security tips.

Holiday Food Drive Success

Food Drive 2012

The 2012 NASA FCU Holiday Food Drive was a great success. As in prior years, NASA FCU hosted the Holiday Food Drive to gather food donations for local food pantries. This year, we collected more than 4,000 pounds of food, as well as $400 in cash, for the Bowie Interfaith Food Pantry. Due to the generosity of our employees and many of our members, NASA FCU once again successfully delivered on our ongoing commitment to people helping people this year. Thank you.
